CHAPTER ELEVEN

I studied the woman across from me, in a pair of designer jeans and a white button-up blouse, with her shoulder-length brown hair perfectly curled. In her early forties, Jennifer White was already a widow and a multimillionaire, not to mention one of the most respected members of SOS. She was also the first person that I needed to convince to vote for me. Once I had her on board, she would be able to influence others to follow suit.

Chase, Tyler, and Griffin were also here as they would serve as my supporting council so if she didn’t have confidence in all of us, we may lose her vote. They had all agreed that it was best if they remained quiet and let me do all of the talking. I needed to prove that I could handle myself without needing the guys to hold my hand.

We had originally planned to meet in one of the conference rooms at EnTech, but Jennifer insisted we meet in her home since it was less formal.

“So, Lilah,” Jennifer began. “Preston has told me a lot about you, and he speaks very highly, which by itself should be enough to secure your position as President. But I need to make sure you hold the same values that I do.”

I had auditioned in front of some of the top producers in the world, had my films viewed by millions, and yet I wasn’t as nervous then as I was now. Luckily, I was an actress and could mask the anxiety coursing through my body.

Mr. Graham had an idea about two members that might choose to run against me. One was ruthless and notorious for doing whatever it took to get ahead. The other was more reserved, keeping to himself and rarely attending any of the SOS meetings. I knew the former, the latter I had only encountered once. Taylor was utilizing all of EnTech’s resources to gather info on both of them so that we would be more prepared for what we were up against.

“What is it that you would like to know?” I asked, folding my hands on my lap.

“What is your plan for the future of SOS?”

I smiled to myself. Of all the questions that she could have asked, this was the easiest for me to answer. And from what I knew about her, my thoughts should be in line with hers.

“Our chapter is on the verge of imploding,” I warned. “Some are looking to destroy the foundation that the founders originally built.”

Jennifer observed me with a thoughtful expression, not giving the slightest hint as to if she agreed with me or not.

“While the majority have used the benefits of the chapter to elevate their status,” I continued. “In the past few years some have chosen to do it through illegal means by using bribery, blackmail, and even murder.” I paused, giving her time to process what I just said. “That will all stop with me.”

“And how do you plan to do that?” Jennifer kept her expression neutral, though her eyes seemed eager to hear what I had to say.
